Course Description: Students will follow the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards for 6th Grade Earth Science. Earth Science is the study of the origin, composition, and physical features of the Earth. A detailed list of the content being covered this year is listed at http://georgiastandards.org.
Grading Scale: Grades are 40% Summative and 60% Formative. Summative grades can include test scores; some quizzes, some labs, and projects. Assignments that are comprehensive will always be summative. Formative assessments can include daily grades, participation grades, homework, computer lab assignments and some quizzes.
Testing: Retests will be given at the teacher’s discretion; however, students must first complete remediation work, get a parents signature, and schedule a time with the teacher to retake the test. Students can earn back ½ of a credit per question.
Late Work: 5 points per day will be deducted for each day an assignment is turned in late. Missing assignments are defined as items not turned in, left at home, left in locker, or drastically incomplete.
Absence Policy: If a student has a planned absence, it is their responsibility to ask the teacher in advance for the work they will be missing. In the event of an unplanned absence, it is still the responsibility of the student to ask the teacher for work missed as soon as they return to school. Any assignment and/or test announced before a student’s absence is the students responsibility to be prepared for that test and/or assignment upon returning to school. The student must complete make up work within the time specified by the Pickens County Schools Student Handbook.
Behavior Management Plan: All students are expected to follow the PCMS behavior management plan in addition to the Pickens County School District’s policies listed in the student Code of Handbook.
Daily Expectations: It is expected that students come to class on time, follow classroom procedures as well as the code of conduct, and bring the required materials with them every day. Required materials include: pencils, paper, class notebook/folder, and textbook.
Teacher/Parent Communication: Parents should check their child’s agenda daily to monitor the classroom assignments and the behavior card. Grades will be posted on Infinite Campus on a weekly basis. (See Mrs. Prescott in the front office for parent log-in information) Lesson plans, Syllabus, and other resources are available on teacher webpage’s. This can be accessed via the PCMS webpage. Please email the teacher or call the front office should you have any questions or concerns.
